We recently hosted another successful food exchange class at the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC). This time, we featured one of Singapore's most beloved dishes: Hainanese Chicken Rice. The workshop brought together lecturers and selected culinary students from NPIC for a day filled with learning and cultural exchange.
The Cooking Demonstration

Our session began with a comprehensive introduction to the ingredients needed for this iconic dish. One advantage of being in Southeast Asia is that all the necessary herbs and spices are similar across countries and readily available in Cambodia.

The demonstration covered several key techniques:
Properly cooking the fragrant chicken rice.
The correct method for boiling chicken to achieve that perfect tender texture.
Preparing the essential accompanying sauces.

After the cooking demonstration, everyone had the opportunity to taste the finished dish. This is always the most enjoyable part of any workshop!
A Special Visit

We were honored by a surprise visit from His Excellency Dr. Bun Karin, the Director of the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia. Dr. Karin presented a commemorative plaque to Denise Lum, COO of Wong and Meas Restaurant Co., Ltd. He also gifted traditional Cambodian kromas to each member of our team.
Building Bridges Through Food
The day was truly fulfilling as we exchanged culinary knowledge and shared Singapore's beloved Hainanese Chicken Rice with our Cambodian friends. These cultural exchanges through food create meaningful connections that transcend borders.

We're already looking forward to returning to NPIC for future collaborations and continuing this delicious journey together!
The Importance of Cultural Exchange
Cultural exchange is vital in today's interconnected world. It fosters understanding and appreciation among diverse communities. By sharing culinary traditions, we not only teach cooking techniques but also promote respect for different cultures.
Culinary Arts as a Bridge
Culinary arts serve as a bridge between cultures. Food has a unique way of bringing people together. When we cook and share meals, we create an environment of warmth and camaraderie. This workshop exemplified how food can unite us, regardless of our backgrounds.
Learning Through Cooking
Cooking is an art that requires patience, practice, and passion. In our workshop, students learned not just how to prepare Hainanese Chicken Rice but also the stories behind the dish. Each ingredient has its significance, and understanding this adds depth to the cooking experience.
The Role of Education in Culinary Exchange
Educational institutions play a crucial role in facilitating cultural exchange. By hosting workshops like this, schools can provide students with hands-on experiences that broaden their culinary horizons. These experiences are invaluable for aspiring chefs who wish to understand global cuisines.
Future Collaborations
As we look ahead, we are excited about future collaborations with NPIC. We envision more workshops that explore various cuisines and culinary techniques. Each session will be an opportunity to learn, share, and grow together.
Conclusion
In conclusion, our Hainanese Chicken Rice workshop at NPIC was a resounding success. It highlighted the importance of cultural exchange through culinary arts. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with the students and faculty at NPIC. Together, we can continue to celebrate the rich tapestry of global cuisine.
We hope to inspire a new generation of chefs who appreciate the beauty of culinary diversity. Let's keep the flame of cultural exchange alive through food!
